Bob G. Layman, age 85, Dandridge, peacefully passed away Friday, January 22, 2021 at his home. Bob was born December 27, 1935 in Sevierville. He graduated from Sevier County High School in 1954.
Bob was a retired Truck Driver. He made it a 49 year career. He started in May, 1956 at Bush Brothers & Company, then to Sonoco in Newport, and his last company of 32 years was Roadway Express in White Pine. Bob was a member of the Teamster Local Union 519.
With every company Bob always achieved safety awards. Through the years at Roadway Express, many were accomplished both as an individual driver and as entire terminal. Bob was awarded a 3 Million Mile Driver and a 4 Million Mile Plus Driver Award. Bob was the 12th driver in Roadway Express history to accomplish this.
Bob retired in 2004, he was always visiting old friends, helping them in any way he could. He spent a lot of time with his granddaughter taking her to dance class, volleyball games, and watching her cheer at basketball and football games. Bob loved racing, dirt track and asphalt. He and A.L. Byrd traveled to many races locally and out of state through the years.
Bob was preceded in death by his father Gene Feezell, Dallas, TX, his mother Alice Layman, Sevierville, his loving wife Haroldene Layman, his in laws Joe & Sarah Thornton, half brother JD Collier, brother in law Frank Manning, Clinton, nephews Bill Etherton & Jack Etherton, Greenville.
He is survived by his loving daughter Leigh Ann Williford (David), his best and only granddaughter Stevie Leigh Ogle (fiancé Marty Croxdale) Newport, half sister Marie Etherton, Greenville, sister in law Betty Manning, Clinton, nephews Steven Manning (Carol) Omaha, NE, Jeff Manning (Rebecca) Powell, Mike Eitherton, Greenville, and David’s daughter Zoe Williford, Johnson City. Treasured friends thought of as family AL & Janice Byrd and daughter Rebecca of Sevierville. Along with many other cousins, family members, and friends to mention.
Tuesday January 26, 2021, visitation will be held from 2:00 p.m. - 3:00 p.m. with funeral to follow at 3:00 p.m. in the Chapel Mausoleum at Resthaven Memorial Gardens. Officiating will be Pastor Bill Cheetham of Burchfield United Methodist Church. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Burchfield UMC, C/o Crystal Hill Sutton, 3966 Thomas Cross Rd. Sevierville, TN 37876
