Claude Smelcer Obituary

Claude Newton Smelcer, age 95, of Parrottsville, Tn. died suddenly at home on Friday, May 2, 2025. He was a retired farmer and over fifty years worked as a Tool & Dial. He was very proud to have served in the US Navy, The Korean War on (Oak Hill Ship). He was a board member who helped bring Cocke County Baptist Hospital to Newport, which later became Tennova Healthcare Hospital.

Claude was preceded in death by his wife of fifty years Anna Jo Smelcer, his parents Homer and Rhoda Smelcer; sisters Marie (Mike) Ottinger and Alice (Grady) Rader; brothers J.D. Smelcer, Charles Smelcer and Bill Smelcer; daughter-in-law Elizabeth Smelcer; brother-in-law’s James Winter, Roger (Minnie Sue) Winter, John (Betty) Winter, Mack (Wilma) Winter and Ronald Conard; nephews Johnny Rader and Jerry Rader.

He is survived by his children Cauley Smelcer and Chris Smelcer, Penny (Chris) Ramsey; grandchildren Samuel Smelcer, Josh (Ashley) Smelcer and Kriston (Josh) Mayor; sisters-in-law’s Ora Lee Conard, Sherry Winter, and Eldise Smelcer; great grandchildren Blake Smelcer and Joseph Smelcer; step great grandchild Regan Thomas and many beloved nieces and nephews.

The family would like to extend a special Thank You to Gentiva and SCHAS Homecare (Senior Citizens Home Assistance Services).

Claude chose to be cremated with a private family burial to be held at St. James Lutheran Church Cemetery.
