Darlene Kay Morton

Darlene Kay Morton, (74), of Newport, Tn passed away Thursday, July 17, 2025. Darlene, originally from Michigan moved to Newport where she lived out her life. After retiring as a CNA she stayed home to love and nurture her family. She enjoyed cooking and baking and creating  many memories with her children and grandchildren in the kitchen.  She is well loved for all of her sweet treats especially during holiday seasons. She spent time crocheting and made sure her children and grandchildren each had a special blanket from her. When she was not making time for her family you would catch her playing casino games.  Darlene had an open heart for anyone.  You did not have to be blood to be loved by her.

She is preceded in death by her brother Larry Hurley; parents Morris and Bernice Hurley; husband William “Billy” Morton along with her 19-year-old dog Doodlebug.

Darlene is survived by her brother Cecil Hurley; sisters Sandra Davis, Paula DeGlopper, and Faye Wells; daughters SaRina Hale, Samantha “Sam” Kempkers, Laura Gross (Garry Carter), Rose Frankum; grandchildren Kristen and Dustin Hale, Brieann Kempkers (Matt Miller), Mikala Kempkers, Morgan Gross, Kade Gross, Destiny Swanner, and Keaira “Willow” Frankum; great grandchildren Elijah and Kylan Miller, Farrah Hale, Jase and Kayden Williams and a special granddaughter Sheana Reed and her four children.

Please remember Darlene’s family, as they have lost a big piece of their family. Their Mom and Grandma will certainly be missed.

A Celebration of Life has been planned for Saturday,  August 9, 2025 at Unifour Church - 2257 Old Conover Startown Rd - Newton, NC.starting at 2:00pm. Friends, family and loved ones are invited to come celebrate with us.
