Emma Sueella (Rice) Johnson, age 91, entered into the presence of the Lord on May 27, 2025. She had been faithful follower and servant of Jesus Christ since her childhood salvation experience.
She was born in Camp Creek, Greene County Tennessee. She grew up on a farm on Upper Paint Creek. Her father, Anderson Rice, was a lay pastor and she and her sister Lily, sang and played their guitars at many revival meetings. Her mother, Marie Lamb Rice was an inspiration to Emma by her charitable actions and always having a hot meal and a helping hand to anyone who was in need. Emma followed her mother’s example by cooking many a hot meal for others and opening her home to many who needed a place to stay during a rough spot in life.
She will be reunited in heaven with her father and mother, sisters Martha Rice and Lilly (Rice) Kesterson, her brothers Jesse Rice, Lamon Rice, Neil Rice and Mont Rice. And she will be missed by her brother Steve Rice and sister-in-law Melba Rice.
She was married to Cawlie Louis Johnson for 69 years and will be reunited with him in heaven. She will be missed by their 5 children; Linda Johnson Donahue (Jim Donahue), Jesse Johnson (Jean Miller), Rev. Cawlie Johnson, Wesley Johnson (Donna Messer) and Robert Johnson (Jodie McGinnis) along with niece, Leisa Davis Rice and nephew Clayton Davis, who became members of their family as young teenagers when their mother died. She will be missed by her 12 grandchildren and she loved them all.
A couple of Emma’s favorite hymns were “Love Lifted Me,” because it reminded her of when Jesus saved her, and “It Is Well With My Soul” which reminded her of heaven, where she is now at peace in the arms of her Savior.
