Farris Joy (Thorpe) Cameron passed into Heaven's Gate on 24, January 2023. She was known by her middle name, “Joy.” She truly was a Joy to all that knew her. Joy was 92 years old. She got married at a young age to her husband, Simmie. Together they had 76 plus years of marriage. Joy devoted her life to raising her family and taking care of all who darkened her door. Joy grew up in the Kansas Community of Jefferson County, TN. Later she and Simmie had homes in Dandridge, TN but settled on Spring Creek Road in Jefferson County for much of her adult life. She truly enjoyed cooking and having family and friends in her home, the home she shared with Simme in Pigeon Forge, TN or the part-time home on the farm in Jefferson City, TN. During those years, Simmie was known to bring new friends he met at Dolly Wood home to enjoy some of Joy’s good cooking and fellowship. Joy is preceded in death by her infant son, her husband Simmie E. Cameron, her father, Abraham Thorpe and mother, Georgia Morie Thorpe. Joy is also preceded in death by her brother Hugh Roger Thorpe and her sisters, Ginger Thorpe, Shirley Thorpe Thompson Shults, Bertie Jean Rowland Parker, her granddaughter Blakley Donica Cameron. Joy is survived by her sons and (spouses) Donald Royce Cameron (Sharon), Porter Michael Cameron (Peggy), Larry Melvin Cameron (Jill), Roger Earl Cameron (Betsy), and Mark Gregory Cameron as well as her baby sister, Abeleen Thorpe Bishop. Joy’s surviving grandchildren include Christy Cameron Lawson, Bradley Donovan Cameron, Michala Nicole Cameron, Scott Harmon Cameron, and Ross Widener Cameron. Surviving great- grandchildren include Tanner Lawson and Faith Lawson, Nolan Andrew Cameron, Kai Simmie Cameron and Keira Joy Cameron, as well as other nieces and nephews. In lieu of Flowers, the family asks for contributions to: French Broad Community Church, Cemetery Fund; 3306 Brethren Church Road; White Pine, TN 37890. Funeral Services will be held at French Broad Community Church on Saturday, January 28, 2023 at 2:00pm, with Pastor Scott Burnette officiating. The family wishes to thank the staff of Smoky Mountain Home Health and Hospice and Signature Assisted Living for providing comfort during Joy’s time of need.
The body will lie in state one hour before services at the church. Interment in the church cemetery will follow the Celebration of Joy’s Life. The family will visit and greet friends and family in the church fellowship hall following the burial service.
