Gary M. Denton, age 75, of Newport, TN passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday, March 8, 2023.
Gary, having a great love of cars, learned about paint and auto body repair and eventually opened his own business, Denton’s Body Shop, where he proudly worked until his health forced him to retire.
He was a member of the Good Times Cruisers car club in which he loved to show off his 1966 Pontiac Bonneville that he had restored and in turn won many trophies and awards.
Gary also had a knowledge of music that would surprise many. He could play the tuba, guitar, piano, keyboard and harmonica, all by ear, never having a music lesson in his life.
He had a way with animals and loved to work in his flower garden to relax.
Gary is survived by children, Marty Denton (Pam Wilkerson), Michelle Manis (Rob Manis), Rhonda Day (Jimmy Day); grandchildren, Jake Denton (Raven Price), Justin Denton, Brian Manis, Heather Manis, Gary James Manis, Nikki Blazer (Kyle Blazer), B.J. Day; great-grandchildren, Jaelynn Denton and 8 other great -grandchildren; sister, Almeda Plymale; half-sister, Kathy Weinel and step sister, Brenda Wright. Gary is also survived by many dear cousins and special lifelong friends who were close to his heart.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 37 years, Barbara Denton; father, R.V. Denton; mother, Nannie B. Denton and brother, Grady Denton.
A gathering of family and friends will be held at the Resthaven Mausoleum Chapel on Sunday, March 12, 2023 from 3 p.m. until 4:30 p.m. with service following at 4:30 p.m. Bishop Jimmy Day officiating.
