George Cooper Jr., age 72, of Newport, Tennessee, passed away on January 1, 2026. He was born on October 26, 1953.
George was preceded in death by his parents; eleven siblings; and his beloved dog, Oscar.
He married the love of his life, Debra Cooper, in 1971, and together they shared many years of marriage and family. After retiring from a career in trucking, George found great enjoyment in watching television—especially classic and suspenseful shows. His favorites included Gunsmoke, Alfred Hitchcock films, The Twilight Zone, The Outer Limits, and Star Trek. He loved recording his shows so he would never miss an episode.
George is survived by his wife, Debra Cooper; his dogs, Shanay “Sissy” and Slim; one brother; and two daughters.
His daughter Carolyn (Derek) Chambers, of Gatlinburg, Tennessee, survives him along with their children: Destin (Victoria) Chambers and their child; Joey Chambers (Kelsey) and their children; Kane (Searra) Gentry and their child; and Marlyssa Strange (Bowman) and their child.
He is also survived by his daughter Debra (Stephen) Turner, of North Carolina, and their children: Stevie (Brian) Sneed and their children; Malachi (Courtney) Fine and their children; and Alex (Lizzy) Turner of Nashville, Tn.
He also leaves behind many cousins, nieces and nephews.
George is further survived by his special friends, Sky, Tasha, and Reggie.

The family will gather for a graveside burial service on Monday, January 5, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. at Resthaven Memorial Gardens.
