John Larry Collins

John Larry Collins, age 79 of Sevierville, Tennessee, was called to his Heavenly home surrounded by his family at home on Wednesday, December 14, 2022, after a courageous battle with cancer. Larry will be laid to rest at East Tennessee State Veterans Cemetery.

Larry was born September 25, 1943 to John and Katherine Collins in Columbus, Georgia. After graduating from Gordon Military Academy (Barnesville, GA), he proudly served his country in the US Navy during Vietnam and was awarded a Bronze Star.  Larry married the love of his life Peggy Mushinsky in Indiana, November 1969. He loved spending time outdoors fishing and kayaking with his daughter Tammy and traveling back to Florida to spend quality time with Toby and family.  Larry especially enjoyed the company of his two dogs, BoBo and Tahoe. Larry and Peggy created a beautiful life together, a life rich in adventurous experiences and which celebrated the love they will eternally share. 

Larry is preceded in death by his parents, John and Katherine Collins and sister, Louise Griffith.

Larry is survived by his wife of 53 years, Peggy Collins; two daughters, Toby Collins and Tammy (Leshia) Collins-Rhodes; sister, Elaine (Ambrose) Woods; sister-in-law, Trudy (Billy) Lynn; grandchildren, Phillip (Nicole) Rhodes; great-grandchildren, Aubrey, Layla, Addison, Harper, Cooper, Caylee; nieces and nephews, Jason (Susan) Moore, Wendy Moore, Wesley Moore, Darren Dyer, Brad (Becky) Bishop Jr. and several great-nieces and great-nephews.

Family and friends will gather at 9:30 am on Thursday, December 22, 2022 at East Tennessee State Veterans Cemetery in the Committal Chapel, with the service to begin at 10:00 am. A private burial will follow.
