Laura Ann Barnette, age 53, of Newport, Tennessee, passed away unexpectedly. Born in Newport, Tennessee, Laura was a bright light in the lives of those who knew her — full of love, laughter, and a unique spirit that could never be matched.
She was preceded in death by her parents, James and Cecile Barnette; her husband, John Edward Atkins; her granddaughter, Alexis Gentry; brother, Jamie Barnette and her sister, Rhonda Lackey.
Laura is survived by her children: Tiffany (Ryan Rogers), Brittany (Jay White), John Jr., Josh (Megan), and Whitney (DJ Dalton) Atkins; stepdaughters, Ashley Gibson and Destiny Atkins; and her 15 beloved grandchildren. She also leaves behind her brothers: Jackie, Jason, Johnny, Jerry, and Jimmy Barnette; as well as her special friend, Carolann McEntire.
Laura was known for her outgoing personality and creative soul. She cherished every moment with her grandchildren, whether playing games, doing makeup, or fixing their hair. She had a soft spot for her dogs, loved crafting, and had a gift for making things beautiful in her own way. Though she wasn’t known for her cooking — often joking about burning everything — she brought warmth and joy into every space she entered. TikTok was one of her favorite pastimes, and she often found fun and laughter there.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, September 11, 2025, from 3:00–5:00 PM at the Resthaven Memorial Gardens Chapel Mausoleum, with a procession to follow for a graveside service at the Barnette Family Cemetery, located off Baysinger Rd. in Parrottsville.
