Phyllis Smith

Phyllis Smith 59, of Newport passed away November 23, 2020 peacefully at her home with her family at her side. Phyllis was a member and Sunday School teacher at English Creek Baptist Church. She had a love for Jesus with a servants heart. She worked at Edgemont Elementary School in the cafeteria and ministered a after school program “Good News Club” to many. She was a CNA and caregiver to many. She was preceded in death by her mother Martha Whaley; brothers Timmy and Arnold Whaley; late husband LB Gorman and granddaughter Makinna Smith. She is survived by her husband Rick Smith; brother Roger (Margaret) Stuart; sisters Tammy (Tommy) Maxwell, Faye (John) Greer; nieces Melody Charon, Ginger Stuart, Amanda Greer; nephews Hunter Maxwell and Jon Greer; stepchildren Todd (Kayla) Smith, Corey (April) Smith and their children Bradley and Tinzlee and a host of many other family and friends. Special friends and work family at Edgemont School and Cracker Barrell.

Visitation for family and friends will be Wednesday November 25, 2020 at Resthaven Memorial Gardens Chapel Mausoleum from 2-4 PM. A private funeral will be held at 4pm with entombment to follow in Resthaven Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to “The Good News Club For Kids”English Creek Baptist Church Newport, TN.
