Roy Messer

Roy Messer passed away Monday January 23, 2023 at the age of 74.

Roy was born in Waynesville, NC and lived in Palm Beach County, FL for many years before moving to Hartford, TN in August of 1988. Roy was a veteran of the United States Marine Corps and served his country in Vietnam. He was a Boy Scouts of America Leader for several years and served as the Commander of the Disabled American Veterans in Newport, TN. Roy enjoyed fishing, camping, nature and being outdoors. He loved playing his guitar and banjo and certainly could "make them sing". Roy is fondly remembered for his humor which he expressed by picking on people and making them laugh; he never met a stranger. He had a great love for animals and whistled to his cardinals every day. Roy loved his Country and his family very much, especially his wife, his daughter and his grandson.

Roy was preceded in death by his parents, Lloyd and Pearl Messer; sisters, Pauline Messer, Mattie Messer, Margaret Sutton and Lucille Williams; son, Michael Messer. Roy is survived by his wife, Shirley Messer; daughter, Carolyn Messer; grandson, Joseph Messer; brothers, Ben Messer and James Messer and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday January 31, 2023 at 11 a.m. in the Resthaven Chapel Mausoleum with entombment to follow. Pastor Jess Sherrod will be officiating the services.
