Sandra Balch Thacker, age 73, went to be with her Lord on Sunday, January 7th, 2024, after a brief illness. Sandra was an avid Tennessee Vols fan. She was the founder of the Southern Street Machine Association and held car shows for 25 plus years. She is also known for always having her nails well-manicured. She loved being a nana to her family. Her and her best friend, Betty, shared many memories together in recent years. She will be fondly remembered by all who knew her.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Herbert L. Thacker; parents, George and Gladys Balch; brother, Jerry Balch; brothers-in-law, Aulden Parks, Dennis Newsome and Bill Murr; and a very special niece, Regina Murr.
Sandra is survived by her beloved daughter and very special son-in-law, Teshia (Scottie) Thornton; amazing granddaughters, Taylor Thornton and Jordan Ray; grandsons, Kimbel Thornton and Azavian Gudger; great granddaughters, Brexley and Avionna Thornton and Oakleigh Bailey; stepsons, Chris (Crysta) Thacker, of Morristown and Chad Thacker, of New Jersey; bonus daughters and sons-in-law, Sheila Gentry (David Shannon) and Kathy (Jimmy) Kelly; brothers, Dennis (Ann) Balch, David (Sheila) Balch and Jeff (Vickie) Balch, all of Newport and Jerome Balch of Texas; sisters, Carolyn Balch, Brenda Newsome, Annette Parks, Marlene Murr and Mary Ester (Sammy) Williams, all of Newport; and a host of precious nieces and nephews; special life-long friends, Connie and Terry Anderson and Betty and Rita Tucker; and her very special companion and fur baby, Sage.
A very special thanks to Charlie Grooms and the entire staff of Smoky Mountain Home Health and Hospice, whom have been so amazing to my mother during this very difficult time. And a thank you to the Celebrate Life Cancer Ministry.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, January 10th, 2024 from 5:00pm-7:00pm in the chapel mausoleum at Resthaven Memorial Gardens with a funeral service to follow at 7:00pm led by Dennis Balch. Her graveside committal will be Thursday, January 11th, 2024 at 2:00pm.
