Obituary
Velma Mae Gunter, age 73, of Newport, TN., passed away peacefully in her sleep Friday, August 5, 2022. Velma retired from Walmart after 16 years in the bakery. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Newport. Velma loved her fur babies and spending time with her family. She is preceded in death by parents Floyd and Elizabeth Williams; brothers, Doyle, Bobby, Earl Williams, and Otis Webb; mother-in-law, Euvela Gunter. She is survived by husband of 47 years, Jay W. Gunter; daughters, Tammy Lynn (Robert Lee) Krewald, Betty (James) Dockery; grandchildren, Casey Flynn, James Shoemaker, Patricia Casey, Douglas Casey, Kimberly and Stephanie Allen; brothers, Blaine and Haskell Williams; sister, Alma Faye Williams; sister-in-law, Louise (Alfred) Brown; brother-in-law, Jeffery (Gail) Gunter; numerous great grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
Family and friends will meet at Resthaven Memorial Gardens Chapel Sunday, August 7, 2022, from 2:00 pm – 3:30 pm. Service to begin at 3:30 pm, Pastor Rob Myers officiating.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks donations to be taken directly to Commercial Bank, 774 Cosby Hwy, Newport, TN 37821, and deposited directly in Jay Gunter’s name.
